Hendra Eka is a documentary, reportage, and sports photographers based in Jakarta, Indonesia. He covers news, sports, and stories that focus on social topics.
As a visual journalist and storyteller, Hendra have experience working as a visual creator, editor, curator, and project manager. Hendra has been assigned to capture many sports events, such a NBA games in California-US, EURO football championships in Poland-Ukraine, Tour de France, Formula One (F1), Australian Basketball League (ABL) in Perth Australia, Sea Games Malaysia, and WTAFinals Tennis in Singapore.
Besides sports, he is also assigned to cover the civil-conflict in Wamena-Papua, AirAsia crash in Kalimantan, investigation of a private plane in Singapore, WAN-Ifra in Bangkok, and many more. In addition, he has also 3-month overland expedition from Bangkok-Thailand to Wagah-Pakistan. In 2023 he covered victims of the civil war of Myanmar in Mae Sot refugee camp, Myanmar-Thailand border.
His work has been recognized by Indonesian Photojournalist Award (APFI), Picture of The Year International (PoYI), shortlisted Bellfast Photo, Photoville New York, and Permata Photojournalist Grant. He is recipient of Erasmus Huis Fellowship to Amsterdam 2020, residency program from the Kingdom of the Netherlands with NOOR Images for one photojournalist from Indonesia.
On the sidelines of taking pictures, Hendra also joined the largest photojournalist organization in Indonesia, Pewarta Foto Indonesia (PFI), as Secretary General. He took his master’s degree in political communication and enjoyed working with a diverse group of clients, of all sizes, and shapes.
Hendra launched his monograph “Lisette” in March, 2023.

Lisette’s photo book is a monograph by Hendra Eka. This book describes the story of professional sex workers in the Netherlands who serve people with disabilities and special needs.
Hendra photographed Lisette’s daily life with several clients, boyfriends, and friends in 3 cities in the Netherlands; Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Tilburg.
Photos are very intimate and bring the reader to feel what Lisette is feeling.
One of the photos from this project received an Award of Excellence from Pictures of the Year International (POY) in the Daily Life category, and several photos were exhibited in Photoville, New York, US.
